Square Inch Price

Edge-to-Edge Designs: 2 cents per square inch

Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .02 = $96.00.

Semi-Custom: 3.5 cents per square inch.  Semi-Custom is one edge-to-edge design in the top center plus one border design.  From the example above, that would be 60 x 80 = 4800 x .035 = $168.00.

Custom Quilting: 4 to 8 cents per square inch.  The actual price will be determined after consultation with you.  The picture to the right is an example of custom quilting.

There is a minimum quilting charge of $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.

Batting

Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch quilting price.

Currently stocked batting include: Hobbs 80/20 cotton/poly, Hobbs 100% Bleached Cotton; and Hobbs Heirloom Wool.  Additionally, any Quilters Dream batting can be special ordered.

The batting charge is by the square inch.  For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt:
4800" of Hobbs 80/20 cotton poly @ $.004 = $19.20

4800" of Hobbs 100% bleached cotton @ $.004 = $19.20

4800" of Quilters Dream Bamboo @ $.005 = $24.00

4800" of Hobbs Heirloom Wool @ $.006 = $28.80

Thread

I stock 40 wt. Glide thread which is a trilobal polyester with a sheen and Innovatech which is also 40 wt. polyester with a matte finish. I find this thread gives excellent results.  However, I have used other threads successfully and am open to discussing your preferences and am willing to order what I don't have in stock.  There is a $7.00 flat fee for thread.

Binding

I can prepare binding strips and attached them to your quilt.  However, please note that all binding work is done by machine.  Specifically, I do NOT sew bindings to the back by hand.  When I sew the binding to the back, I will "stitch in the binding ditch" from the front and there will be a visible line of stitching on the binding on the back.  I will attached binding to the front of the quilt with mitered corners for $ .30 per linear inch or completely sew the binding to the front and back for $ .50 per linear inch.

If you want me to prepare and attach your binding, add that to the booking form, and I will calculate how much fabric you need to send to me to create the binding.

Producing a Custom or T-Shirt Quilt

I have recently been getting requests to make custom quilts.  I CAN do this.  However, it will not be free, nor will it be the cost of a blanket or quilt from a department store.  It will be the cost of a CUSTOM WORK OF ART.  There are many factors that go into making a custom quilt, but for simplicity there are two basic items - Materials Cost and Labor Cost.  My Labor Cost is between $ .08 to $ .15 per square inch, depending on the complexity of the quilt.  This price includes the design, cutting, and sewing the top, quilting the top with batting and backing, and finishing with a double fold binding.  Example: a Throw size quilt that is 45" x 65" at $ .15 would be $438.75 PLUS the cost of the materials.  An average amount of fabric for that quilt would be 3 yards for the front, 3 yards for the back, and 1/2 yard for the binding.  The current price for good quality fabric is approximately $12.99 per yard.  The cost of the batting would be about $12.00.  In this example, the Material Cost would be $96.43.  THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS CUSTOM QUILT WOULD BE $535.18.  Of course, you may choose to provide your own fabric and that would reduce the cost of your quilt.

T-Shirt Quilts are a wonderful way to preserve memories - schools and activities, vacations, sports teams - and so much more.  T-Shirt quilts are priced at $20 per shirt plus the cost of additional materials for sashing, borders, backing, binding, and batting.

All custom quilt requests will require an appointment for an in-person consultation to discuss the details and receive an accurate price quotation.

Shipping

I live in Orlando, Florida and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I'd recommend sending your materials enclosed in a plastic bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.  If you are local, I will be happy to arrange a meeting place to accept your quilt.

Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number.  Please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.

Photography

I'm not a professional photographer but I do my best to take "nice" photos of your finished quilt.  Upon completion, I will text or email those images for you to use however you would like. I'd just ask that you credit me for the photo and/or quilting if posting publicly. This extra service is included in your square inch price.

Other Costs

As mentioned above, batting and thread are not included in the square inch price.  Those materials and any other fabric utilized in the quilt will be subject to sales tax of 6.5% if you are in the state of Florida.  Custom embroidered quilt labels are also available for $20 per label.

Payment

After the work is complete, a PayPal invoice will be sent to you.  If you are local, you will still receive a PayPal invoice, but you may pay by cash or check if you prefer.

I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to mail your project(s) back to you right away.
